Complaint lodged against Chennai Mayor

May 16, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - CHENNAI:

Saidapet DMK candidate Ma. Subramanian has complained to the EC, alleging that Mayor Saidai Duraisamy has made illegal and false promises to voters of the Saidapet constituency. Enclosing original letters distributed to voters promising issuance of patta, he stated that the Mayor was abusing his official position. He alleged that Mr. Duraisamy requested residents to vote in favour of AIADMK candidate C. Ponnaiyan, distributing letters in the official envelope of the Greater Chennai Corporation.

Mr. Subramanian also alleged that Corporation staff were passing wrong information to election observers, who have difficulty understanding Tamil.

He requested the Chief Election Commissioner to pass orders restraining the Mayor from using the letter pad and emblem of Corporation for election purpose.
