Complaint filed in IS threat case, probe on

April 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - CHENNAI:

The city police are probing the origin of the threat letters, purportedly sent by terrorist outfit Islamis State (IS) to the office of the Director General of Police and Chennai Press Club, last Wednesday.

RSS targeted

According to sources, the Triplicane police have registered a case based on the letters that stated IS had identified 50 city-based RSS activists involved in terror activities.

At least 10 of them would be shot, the letter said.

The letters, addressed to ‘all media’ and ‘DGP law and order intelligence’ also said bomb blasts, similar to the Coimbatore blasts of 1998, would take place in Chennai after April 24.

The city police had urged the representatives of Chennai Press Club to lodge a complaint in the matter.

After a formal complaint was lodged by them, the Triplicane police registered a case and a probe is under way.

The letters were received through post and investigations are on to trace the sender, the police said.
