The Airport bus stop, located on the side of the Grand Southern Trunk Road, where the vehicular movement is in the direction of Tambaram, lacks a shelter and commuters stand in the open.
Besides inclement weather, they often have to deal with the stench emanating from waste that piles up every day near the bus stop.
Buses that halt at this stop include 70A (Avadi-Vandalur Zoo), G18 (Guduvanchery-T. Nagar), E18 (Guduvanchery-Broadway) and G70 (Vadapalani-Guduvanchery).
At the height of summer, when the sun seems likely to give a three-aspirin headache, some commuters tend to take shelter behind parked vehicles. A few wait on the pavement near a garden maintained by the Chennai Cantonment Board.
“During peak summer and monsoon, we are in for a difficult time,” says R. Shantha Thiagarajan, a resident of Tirusulam.
This bus stop is maintained by Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC). A GCC official says a shelter will soon be constructed at the bus stop.
