Commotion at Chennai airport

June 06, 2014 09:10 am | Updated 09:10 am IST - CHENNAI:

Delay in departure of a Spicejet flight to Bangalore and poor response from the airline staff at Chennai airport led to commotion on the premises on Thursday.

The scheduled departure time of the Bangalore flight (SG-3005) was 11.40 a.m. By 11.30 a.m., all the passengers had boarded the flight and were waiting for take-off.

Just before the departure, however, Spicejet officials announced the aircraft had developed some technical snag, due to which the departure would be delayed. Passengers were forced to disembark.

R. Venkatesan, a passenger, said, even after two hours of delay, the airline staff did not respond to passengers’ queries. The airline also announced that those going on to Mysore on the same flight would be taken by road.

An airport official said, unlike Chennai, Mysore airport does not have a full-fledged air traffic control tower. The tower closes after 5.30 p.m., and since the Spicejet flight would land in Mysore late, the airline announced the cancellation of the flight. The flight departed for Bangalore around 2.40 p.m. on Thursday.
