Following audit objections to the tune of Rs. 1,016 crore during the DMK regime, the Chennai Corporation has constituted a committee to study civic development works taken up during a ten-year period.

At the council meeting on Tuesday, Mayor Saidai Duraisamy said the audit objections had been raised for the ten years when the DMK led the council.

The committee will study the role of officials who worked on the projects mentioned in the audit.

“Many of the officials have retired now. But, those responsible for the loss have to answer the people,” he said.

The audit objections pertain to solid waste management, bridges and streetlights. DMK councillors objected to the allegation levelled against former mayors M.K. Stalin and M. Subramanian. After the councillors disrupted the proceedings of the council, the Mayor asked the police to remove them from the hall.

The council passed resolutions on a cycle sharing scheme covering 200 spots in the city, marina loop road beautification, 348 Namma Toilets and 10,000 cement concrete roads on Tuesday.
