A commemorative volume on former President R. Venkataraman will be published next month, P. Murari, former Secretary to the President of India, said here on Saturday.

Speaking on the sidelines of a function to launch the birth centenary celebrations of the former President, he said leading personalities associated with industry, education, labour and arts would contribute to the volume.

The celebrations would be organised in various parts of the country. Seminars on various topics, including industry, labour, education, arts, culture and spirituality would be organised by the R V Centenary Celebrations Committee, said Mr. Murari, who is adviser to FICCI President.

As Mr. Venkataraman was associated with organisations such as the United Nations and International Labour Organisation, the committee has proposed to conduct seminars in association with many of the organisations.

President of the R V Centenary Celebrations Committee and former Supreme Court judge S. Mohan described Mr. Venkataraman as “a perfect gentleman” and said that he contributed to the development of rural economy and primary investments in small and medium industries.

A portrait of Mr. Venkataraman was unveiled and a tree planting programme was conducted on Saturday by the committee in association with the Industrial Estate Manufacturers' Association, Guindy.

President of the Association K. V. Kanakambaram said the contribution of Mr. Venkataraman was crucial in creating many entrepreneurs in the city. Social worker and the former President's daughter Padma Venkataraman participated.
