As a developing country, India has been predominantly dependent on fossil fuels. Coal is the most important of them all and around 90% of India’s coal is produced from open-cast or mountain top mines.
The ‘Beehive Design Collective’, which is a group of artists, activists and educators tackling issues such as biotechnology and extreme resource extraction, is coming to Chennai on September 14 for a workshop on the impact of coal extraction.
The workshop, ‘The True Cost of Coal’ will depict the history of strip-mining, surface mining, globalization and climate change. Tyler Norman and Nikki Tourigny will be coming to Chennai as part of the event.
Norman and Tourigny, also known as the ‘Bees’ will depict the story using hand-drawn cartoons and stories and solutions from grassroots communities to grasp the bigger picture and understand the energy crisis.
