At painting competition for children with disability

R. Mariswaran painted the bottom half of the paper deep-green and drew a tiger and zebra above. In less than five minutes, the paper came alive with a bunch of animals, stout trees and a thin stream of river.

His teacher nodded in approval and signalled to him to write his name on the sheet. “He is extraordinarily talented in arts. We have seen him draw scenery after scenery in a matter of a few minutes,” said his teacher from MCJ Special School, which was one among the six schools that participated in the Hi Tone Hearing Private Limited's ‘Drawing and Painting competition for children with hearing and speech disability' here on Wednesday.

The participants were categorised into three levels and different topics were given to them. Students below class V came out with colourful sketches of flowers, while those in classes VI to IX drew sceneries. Participants from class IX to XII gave shape to their ideas about making the city a better place to live by painting tall trees bordering roads and dirt-free beaches. “Their imagination is astounding. This would provide a platform for these children who hardly get an opportunity to showcase their talents,” said Hi Tone Hearing Private Limited Director K. Deepak Raj. Nearly 80 students participated in the competition and the winners will be announced next week. Cash prizes would be awarded to three participants in each category, said Chairman of the firm K. Balamurugan.
