The semester examination for the final-year students of Dr. Ambedkar Government Arts College, Vyasarpadi, is scheduled to commence on May 16.

The time-table for the examinations would be released on May 9. The announcement was made by M.B. Chandrasekar, principal (in-charge) of the college at a parent-teacher meeting organised in the college premise on Tuesday.

“We want the examinations to be conducted on time,” said Isaikanmani, the parent of an M.Sc student. The parents appealed that the examinations particularly for final-year students be concluded on time, since most of the families expected their children to finish the course and get employed at the earliest.

The students need to either look for jobs or pursue higher studies. So it is important that the examinations are held on time, said most parents.

The exams were suspended following the suicide of a student, who was allegedly denied hall ticket, and the subsequent protests by students.

On the issue of allowing the students against whom police complaints have been registered, the decision will be taken up by the police, said Mr. Chandrasekar.

But the students who have lack of attendance would not be permitted to write the examinations of the present semester while they can attempt the arrear examinations, as per the University norms, said Jyothi Kumar, joint director, Directorate of Collegiate Education.

“This year, two faculty members were appointed to the BBA department of the college, and we have requested that four more faculty be appointed,” Mr. Jyothi Kumar added.

The parents of the students against whom complaints have been registered said that the examinations should be conducted on time and demanded that there is no victimisation of the students once they return to the college.

The parent teacher meeting for the second-year students will be held on Wednesday and for the first-year students on Thursday, it was decided at the meeting.
