The Cochrane Basin Bridge would be ready for use by May-end, Mayor M. Subramanian said at the ‘Makkalai Thedi' meeting in Korukkupet on Saturday.

The delay was owing to a pending court case, which had been settled in favour of the Chennai Corporation, he said. The bridge was being constructed by the civic body and the Railways at a cost of Rs. 16.66 crore.

The long-pending demand for a subway in Korukkupet would be taken up at a cost of Rs.7.4 crore after the bridge is completed. Efforts are being made to develop a park following a request by R.K. Nagar residents, Mr. Subramanian added.

A total of 1,504 petitions were received and 674 disposed of at the meeting. The residents sought new ration cards, old age pension and housing facility. The civic body had set up a stall to check blood glucose level and BP.
