Coca-Cola allotted land: Minister

April 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - CHENNAI:

The State government on Wednesday agreed that it has allotted land to Coca-Cola for a manufacturing plant at SIPCOT Industrial Estate in Perundurai.

After the Chief Minister’s reply to the discussion on budget, CPI(M) deputy leader K. Balakrishnan asked if the government had allotted land for the company. As the Speaker expunged some of his remarks, the treasury bench went into a huddle for a while.

Visibly perplexed, Environment Minister Thoppu N.D. Venkatachalam could not come up with any reply. Electricity Minister Natham R. Viswanathan gave points to the Ministers nearby to tell him to give a proper reply to the question. But, he still looked baffled. Coming to his rescue, Industries Minister P. Thangamani told the House that the government has allotted land for Coca-Cola.
