Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Friday announced that shooting ranges would be established at the Tamil Nadu Police Academy in Ommanancherry, Madurai and Coimbatore at a cost of Rs. 40 crore to promote sharpshooters.

Ms. Jayalalithaa on Thursday discussed the measures to be initiated for enabling people with shooting talents to participate in the global events.

In the recent Commonwealth Games, 17 of the 64 medals won by sportspersons from India were in the shooting events. But, no one from Tamil Nadu was among those winners. Hence, the government was keen on promoting talent in shooting.
