While hearing a PIL plea that sought the broadcast of reality show Bigg Boss Tamil be stopped, the Madras High Court on Friday directed the government’s lawyer to clarify on the mechanisms for the regulation of television channels.

Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M. Sundar told Additional Solicitor General Su. Srinivasan to differentiate between the self-regulatory mechanisms for TV channels and regulatory systems under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Senior counsel P.S. Raman, appearing for Bigg Boss host Kamal Haasan, said self-regulatory mechanism was the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has set up Electronic Media Monitoring Centre for content monitoring.
