The Chennai Corporation will hold a meeting with representatives of political parties and printers to curb illegal hoardings and banners in the city.

On Tuesday, the civic body continued to remove illegal hoardings and banners on many roads including NSC Bose Road, Anna Salai, Poonamallee High Road, Vepery High Road and Tondiarpet High Road.

Most of the zones reported removal of a number of banners ranging from 50 to 90 on Tuesday. “We will start issuing notices to printers of illegal banners and file cases. Discipline has to be brought in before the Lok Sabha election,” said a Corporation official.

The Corporation has already decided to cancel trade licences of printers who help erect illegal hoardings in the city. “Officials of the 15 zones will initiate measures to cancel the trade licences. But the zonal level officials will be unable to control illegal hoardings without cooperation from political parties and printers,” said a civic official.

Most banners removed on Tuesday carried advertisements of food products, motor vehicles and jewellers. All the three districts — Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur — have started removing illegal hoardings and digital banners following a High Court directions.
