Cyclone Ockhi has helped bring down the State’s rainfall deficit to 15%. The month could well be Chennai’s second wettest November in the past decade as the city has recorded 62 cm of rainfall so far.
November 2015 holds the record for being the wettest month of the decade with 105 cm. K. Srikanth, a weather blogger, said three weather systems that followed one after another brought steady spells of rains in coastal areas and contributed to November becoming one of the wettest month of the decade.
Another low pressure
There is another low pressure lying over the Malay Peninsula and the adjoining South Andaman Sea which is likely to turn into a depression.
On its possible impact, Mr. Balachandran, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, said: “Only if the cyclone moves away and loses strength, can we have better clarity on the movement and intensity of the rainfall.”
