Loyola Dream Team, a college dance troupe from the city, is preparing for the summit clash of India’s Dancing Superstar, a national reality talent hunt.
In their final performance on August 3, the team will battle four finalists for the IDS trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 50 lakh.
The show, which is aired on Star Plus, will decide the winners based on votes from viewers. Over the past few weeks, dancers and teams that have received the least number of votes have been eliminated from the show.
“We never expected to come so far. We were taking it one week at a time. Our major drawback was getting enough votes. Participants who come from regions where Hindi TV shows are popular found no difficulty in garnering votes. Since not many people from the south watch these shows, we were sceptical about coming this far,” said Srikanth Ramesh, one of the dancers, and a founder of the team.
The team carved a niche for themselves in the show with their gravity-defying acts. A few weeks and a couple of standing ovations later, the team now has an enviable following.
“Before the competition started, we had only 2,000 followers on Facebook. Now, we have 28,407 fans,” said the team’s choreographer, Raymond Callanan.
Loyola Dream Team will need the most number of votes to get ahead of Delhi-based MJ5, Padmini-Debasis from Odisha, Akshay Pal from Indore and aerial artistes Palden-Khyati.
