A 19-member Chinese delegation, comprising teachers and officials of the Education department from different parts of the neighbouring country, had a one-hour-long meeting with the School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu on Monday in the city.

The Minister and officials dealing with the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), a special intervention being implemented for universalisation of elementary education, briefed the delegation of the status of the SSA in the State. The members of the team, who visited a school in Raja Annamalaipuram here, were impressed with the component of teaching mathematics. They also observed that students interacted freely with teachers, the Minister later told The Hindu.

The delegation would visit other parts of the State including Madurai and Coimbatore, he said.
