In a joint operation, the Chennai and Tiruvannamalai police rescued a three-year-old boy who was kidnapped by his neighbour. The physically challenged suspect kidnapped the boy from his school on Thursday and absconded.

According to police sources, when R. Sudhakar did not return from school till late, his mother R.Vimala (27) made enquiries with the teachers.

She was told that her neighbour R.Satish Kumar (30) had taken the boy in his tri-cycle. A little later Vimala received a phone call from the accused who threatened to kill her son if she refused to live with him.

After the victim lodged a complaint with the ICF Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Kilpauk) M.C.Sarangan formed a special team to investigate the case.

“Since the accused was speaking with the woman at regular intervals, we traced his mobile phone location to Tiruvannamalai. A team rushed there with the photograph of the boy. The local police cornered the accused near the bus stand.”

Mr. Sarangan said Satish had made the boy wear a girl's dress to conceal his identity. Since he was known to the family for more than two years, the boy did not raise an alarm. Satish was arrested on charges of kidnapping and remanded to judicial custody, he added.
