A three-year-old girl died after a 32-inch television set fell on her head while she was playing near the TV stand at her aunt’s house in Alapakkam on Monday afternoon.

Maduravoyal police sources said Rakshana Santhosh Kumar had been brought to her aunt’s house on 20 Street in Ashtalalakshmi Nagar by her parents for the holidays. The accident took place around 1.30 p.m. when the girl was playing near the 2.5-ft-tall stand on which the flat-screen TV was placed. She suffered a severe head injury as a result of the TV falling on her.

Rakshana’s parents and relatives rushed her to a private hospital nearby where doctors declared her as brought dead, sources added. Maduravoyal police have registered a case of unnatural death and are further probing.
