The Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, on Sunday welcomed Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's initiative in asking a technical committee, which was formed to examine the stability of the fire-ravaged Kalas Mahal in Chepauk, to explore possibility of restoring it or building a replica.

The people of Tamil Nadu, particularly those who have love for history and interest in preserving historical structures are overwhelmed with happiness over the Chief Minister's personal interest taken to restore the grand majestic Kalas Mahal, and also seeking a report from experts on safety measures to be undertaken in such structures, he said. It would be appropriate if representatives from the structural engineering department of the Indian Institute of Technology are also invited to give their. This would enhance the objectivity of the decision with regard to the future course of action on the restoration of Kalas Mahal, he said in a statement.
