Scores of men, women and several college and school students walked down the Marina Beach service road along the Labour Statue and made their way to Gandhi Statue to spread awareness about breast cancer on Sunday.
Placards with pink ribbon symbols addressed grandmothers, mothers and aunts, telling them to watch out for breast cancer. The event was organised by several non-governmental organisations such as ‘Can stop’, the Adyar Cancer Institute, Sahaayika, Breast Cancer Support Group and Apollo Hospital Cancer Support Group.
Before the walk was flagged off, S. Ve. Shekher, Mylapore MLA, cricketers Krish Srikkanth and Lakshmipathi Balaji, actors Gowthami and Swarnamalya, film director Vasanth, and Consul General at the United States Consulate General in Chennai Andrew T. Simkin, addressed the gathering. A pamphlet on creating awareness about breast cancer was also released.
