The city and its neighbourhood may experience largely dry weather on Thursday, as the well-marked low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal has not developed into a depression.

Officials of the meteorological department said that the system is about 700-800 km southeast of Chennai and is being monitored.

While there may be some rainfall in coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Chennai may only get isolated showers, said an official. “We have to wait another day to observe the direction that the system will take and its impact on rainfall over the city,” the official added.

The department has forecast that the city will experience a maximum temperature of 30 degree Celsius on Thursday.

The city has so far received 106 cm of rainfall this year. The annual average is 140 cm.
