Chennai tea shop owners ask to stay open 24 hours

November 11, 2013 08:15 am | Updated 08:15 am IST - CHENNAI:

Tea shop owners in the city want the police department to allow their shops to remain open round-the-clock.

T. Anandan, president of Chennai Metropolitan Tea Shop Owners’ Association, said the police were not permitting the shops to remain open after 11 p.m.

“We request the city police commissioner to allow the shops to be open for 24 hours so we can carry out our business,” he said.

This was one of the resolutions passed by the association during its 32 annual day meeting on Sunday. Mr. Anandan said they also faced problems while renewing the licences for the shops. “The Chennai Corporation does not renew our trade licences if the owner of the building has not paid the property tax. The Corporation should process our applications for licence renewal as soon as possible,” he said.
