Children studying in Corporation schools will now be exposed to drama, music, dance and other forms of visual and performing arts.

By the end of this year, arts labs are expected to come up in nearly 10 schools run by the Chennai Corporation. These labs, established in association with NalandaWay, a non-profit organisation, will provide training in fine arts, craft, music, dance, drama, sculpture, ceramics, pottery and other arts to children in the age group of 10-17 years from poor families.

One such lab was inaugurated at the Chennai Middle School in Trustpuram by Mayor Saidai Duraisamy on Friday.

Sriram Ayer, founder, NalandaWay said expert artists would train talented children from areas around corporation schools.

Mr. Ayer added that labs have been set up in Nochikuppam in Santhome, Trustpuram in Kodambakkam and GBW Colony in Tondiarpet.
