Chennai region once again recorded a stunning success rate of 99.87 in the CBSE class X examination, the results of which were announced on Sunday evening.
This is an increase from last year’s figure of 99.66 per cent. D.T. Sudarshan Rao, regional officer, CBSE Chennai Region, announced the results on Sunday evening. CBSE does not declare toppers and rank students.
Under the Continuous and Comprehensive assessment, through which students are evaluated, they are given grades instead of marks, and are tested not only through written examinations but also scholastic and co-scholastic activities throughout the year. The Board awards grades ranging from A1 to E2 with A1 being the highest. Those who get grades E1 and E2 are eligible for improvement of performance (EIOP), as the Board does not demark failures. In 2013, 213 students fall under this category.
Of the 2,338 schools in the region, 213 are Kendriya Vidyalayas, 106 are Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, 84 are government schools, 1,930 are private schools and 5 Central Tibetan Schools, according to the CBSE.
