December 24, 2013 08:54 am | Updated 08:54 am IST - CHENNAI:

Hotel and resort managements must ensure cab services for their guests on New Year’s Eve in order to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol, Commissioner of Police S. George has advised.

In a meeting held on Monday evening with more than 80 representatives from hotels and resorts located in the city police limits, Mr. George pressed the need to arrange cabs for guests.

Hotels and resorts planning to conduct events on New Year’s Eve were asked to apply for permission with the police. After thorough examination of the applications, permissions are being given to conduct events from 6 p.m. on December 31 till 1 a.m. on January 1.

The managements were told that organisers should refrain from erecting temporary structures above swimming pools and others parts of the hotel or resort. In case of a need for such structures, valid permission should be obtained from the authority concerned, police sources said.
