In the wake of a spate of murders in the city, police have intensified patrols and arrested over 150 people, including those wanted in pending cases, in the last two days.

Further, police are holding enquiries with motorists and pedestrians who are on the road after 11 p.m. and in ‘suspicious cases’, individuals’ details were being recorded.

The release said Commissioner T.K. Rajendiran went around different parts of the city, supervising night patrolling operations.

The Commissioner has also ordered more steps to check crimes, following which night patrolling has been increased, it said.

On Friday, news emerged of the cold-blooded murder of five women — four of them under 30 — in the city, which is considered among the safer places to stay in India.
