July 17, 2016 02:35 am | Updated 02:35 am IST - CHENNAI:

The first full-fledged electrified trial run on Chennai Metro Rail’s underground stretch from Thirumangalam to Shenoy Nagar was conducted on Saturday.

“For the past few months, we would either use the loco for trials or pull the train using a loco as the stretch was not electrified. Signalling work has already started on this stretch and we will continue to finish the rest of the construction of stations and installation of platform screen doors,” an official said. The stretch from Thirumangalam to Nehru Park is likely to be open by the end of the year. The Metro’s second stretch — from Little Mount to Chennai Airport — is likely to be operational in August.
