The underground stretch of Chennai Metro Rail from Thirumangalam to Shenoy Nagar may be electrified in about two weeks.

According to officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the train was operated through this stretch with shunting loco and an inspection was carried out.

“This was done to check various parameters before the electrification is done,” an official said. It was run using shunting loco since the electrification and signalling work are not complete yet.

Metro Rail Officials said the construction of this stretch was likely to be over by the end of this year or early next year.

Work on stations on

After the construction of tunnels and laying of tracks, now the work on stations is going on.

Also, platform screen doors have been installed at the Thirumangalam and Anna Nagar Tower stations.

These protective doors prevent access to tracks for commuters; they are synchronised with the position of train doors and will open only when the train halts.

Chennai Metro Rail started its first service from Koyambedu to Alandur only in June last. Currently, nine trains are running on this stretch.
