Partial black out of AIADMK party banners carrying the name of Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy on Sunday fuelled yet another round of speculation among Chennai Corporation officials and residents.

On Sunday, curious onlookers were found gathering around one such poster, discussing the implications of the mayor’s name being blacked out by a few AIADMK party cadres. A white strip was found pasted on the name, which was earlier printed in a banner erected near Aalayamman Temple in Teynampet near Eldams Road.

Other dignitaries mentioned in the banner include minister B.Valarmathi and South Chennai Member of Parliament J.Jayavardhan. The event was organised on Sunday to conduct a special pooja for AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa. Sources said that there are reports of his name being blacked out in banners at other parts of the city too.

‘Clarity likely on Monday ’

“We are unsure of the actual issue. There is likely to be some clarity on Monday when Corporation Commissioner Vikram Kapur returns to work after visiting New Delhi,” said an official of Chennai Corporation.
