A 33- year-old woman sustained 46% burn injuries after her colleague poured lab spirit on her and set her on fire. She has been admitted to Kilpauk Government Hospital for treatment.

According to Madipakkam police inspector Jaishankar, the woman Yamuna (33), a resident of Puzhudivakkam, works as a part time staff a private lab in Madipakkam.

Police claimed that she was not regular to work and this angered Rajesh, who runs the lab. The laboratory had been making losses off late and he allegedly told Yamuna that she was the reason behind it.

An argument broke out between them on Sunday night over this. In a fit of rage Rajesh allegedly poured spirit over her and set fire to her.

Other staff and passerby rushed her to Kilpauk Government Hospital for treatment. Rajesh has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

Yamuna’s husband Anand, a driver, who was at the KMC, said that she was out of danger. “She joined only few months ago in order to support the family. She sustained injuries on the chest,” he said
