H eels On Wheels , an all-women’s treasure hunt, organised as part of the annual women’s day celebration of The Hindu , was held recently. The fifth edition of the event was flagged off by Squash player Dipika Pallikal at Citi Centre. Nearly 100 teams comprising women across age groups assembled enthusiastically, and were given three hours to complete the hunt. It took them to various corners of Chennai, including Mount Road, Nungamabakkam, Kotturpuram, ECR, OMR, Adyar and Besant Nagar.

A few teams completed the tasks in nearly two-and-a-half hours. “The clues were structured thoughtfully, and so we had no hassle,” says Venna Abinay and Santhoshi M., who were amongst the teams that finished early. “Working professionals such as us hardly find time to plan a day of such leisure activities. Thanks to this event, my friends and I had a whale of a time,” says Sheetal Jain. Amritha Bhalla, Varsha Chordia and Ektha Chugh were the title winners, while Anusha, Innavil, Divya and Kiruba, the runners up. The winners were awarded Rs. 50,000, runners-up Rs. 30,000, and second runners-up, Rs. 20,000. They received gift vouchers too. After the hunt, there were games and activities — from tongues twisters and balloon bursting to hoopla musical chain and throwing the ball in the bucket.

The women’s day celebration extends through the month, and includes a walkathon at Marina Beach on March 8 and a women empowerment workshop at the Hyatt on March 17.
