House burgled

Burglars broke into a house in Thirumangalam and decamped with cash and other valuables.

Police sources said the burglary took place at the residence of Thiraviyam (67), a retired officer with the Commercial Taxes department, on 12 Main Road in 2 Avenue, when he and his family members left for Cumbum, Theni on August 24.

On Monday morning, Thiraviyam’s neighbours called on phone and informed him that his house locks were broken. Thiraviyam alerted his son Vinod in Moogappair who rushed to the house and ascertained that there was a break-in. Cash over Rs. 20,000 kept in an almirah was missing. Police are awaiting Thiraviyam’s arrival to ascertain whether any gold jewellery was taken away by burglars, sources added.

TASMAC staff robbed

Three unidentified men allegedly robbed over Rs. 1 lakh from an employee at a TASMAC outlet in Taramani on Sunday.

Police said the incident took place around 10.30 p.m. at the outlet on the 100 ft Road when salesman Murugiah (35) of Ashok Nagar, was putting down the shutters. The trio wanted a bottle of whisky but Murugiah told them the shop was closed. Enraged by the reply one drew a knife and placed it on the victim’s neck. They robbed Rs. 1 lakh from the shop and fled on a motorcycle, police added.
