Women testify to scheme’s impact

A World Bank team met beneficiaries of the State government’s Pudhu Vazhvu project

It was in a gram sabha meeting that she found a way to transform her life — the government’s Pudhu Vazhvu project — recalled Sarasa, a young woman from Padappai village of Kancheepuram district,

Another beneficiary, Sumathi Sukumar also spoke about the tremendous impact various schemes to educate women and alleviating poverty had on women. “The quality of education provided to children would take the next generation to higher levels,” she said.

These women were interacting with a World Bank team led by its president Jim Yong Kim, at Kundrathur block development office, Padappai. After meeting the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, the team was in Padappai to get first-hand information from the beneficiaries of the schemes implemented with World Bank funding. The WB team was welcomed by the Kancheepuram District Collector, K. Baskaran.

Mr. Kim enquired about the status of the projects and its results from the members of women groups. He stated that Tamil Nadu government’s ‘Pudhu Vaazhvu’ project had produced tremendous results.
