Although engineering and information technology continue to be the most popular courses among Indian students in Australia, of late, courses like clean energy, sports management and environment engineering are also in demand, said Trade Commissioner and Consul Commercial of the Australian Trade Commission in Chennai Michael Carter.
Australia continues to be one of the top three destinations of choice for Indian students, with the number of students growing steadily, he said, at the launch of the Australian Education Week in Tamil Nadu here on Wednesday.
There are currently 35,000 Indian students in Australia and the numbers are growing rapidly. There has been an increase of 61 per cent year on year growth till March 2014 in higher education institutions across Australia, Consul General to South India Sean Kelly said.
In order to promote Australia as a top destination, a team from the Australian Consulate General will be travelling across Tamil Nadu. They are starting with the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore, and then will continue to a number of destinations including Vellore, Madurai and Tiruchi.
Over the next week, the team will be visiting Anna University, IIT-Madras and a number of deemed universities as well as some private schools.
There are a number of scholarship options available, including the Endeavour Scholarship for postgraduate education.
