RTE quota: May 31 is last date

May 21, 2014 04:13 am | Updated 04:13 am IST - CHENNAI:

The last date to issue application forms for 25 per cent seats reserved under RTE Act has been extended to May 31. The previous deadline was May 18. A school education department official said a meeting of schools was held in all district headquarters on Saturday to take stock of the number of application forms issued by the schools, and check the status of implementation of the provision.

These schools have to reserve 25 per cent of the seats at entry-level for children from weaker sections of society and disadvantaged groups. In Chennai, a meeting of 260 matriculation schools and 345 nursery and primary schools was held and the directorates of School Education, Elementary Education and Matriculation schools got together to conduct the drive. “Schools were asked to furnish details about the number of general seats at the entry-level, 25 per cent intake and the number of application forms issued,” said an official, adding that some schools could not attend the meeting. “As of Monday, schools said they had issued about 2,600 forms since RTE admissions began,” the official said.

The forms can be collected and submitted at the schools, as well as in the offices of the inspector of matriculation schools and offices of the Chief Educational Officer, District Educational Officer and District Elementary Educational Officer.
