Ponneri wall collapse: bodies claimed by kin

Relatives of the 11 persons who lost their lives when a wall collapsed in Alamathy village, Ponneri taluk, on Sunday morning, claimed the bodies of the deceased at Tiruvallur government hospital, on Monday.

Of the 11, nine bodies were taken to Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, and two to Odisha. The kin of the deceased were provided transportation to return to their villages.

Tiruvallur district collector V. Raghava Rao said the remaining portion of the compound wall of the godown, where the accident happened on Sunday, had been demolished. The sole survivor in the accident, Nagaraj, is undergoing treatment at Stanley Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, four persons were arredted in connection with the wall collapse. On Sunday, A. Bala from M.A. Nagar in Red Hills was held. He owned the godown. N. Devendran, the contractor who engaged the workers, and M. Murugesh Kumar, son of the owner of the construction site, were also arrested. On Monday, A. Mohan, owner of the construction site was also arrested.
