His unrelenting spirit and passion for photography drove him to new heights. For P. Saikrishnan, a hardware professional, his physical disability has never been a deterrent.
He never hesitates to travel with a heavy camera kit or climb flights of stairs to get the right shot.
A man with a Midas touch, Mr. Saikrishnan, has won gold medals thrice at the national-level Abilympics, an Olympics event that tests the mettle of persons with disabilities in vocational skills.
At the Abilympics held last month, he went on to win the gold despite injuries from a recent fall.
“I once had to climb seven floors to get an aerial shot for the competition. But I was determined to win and managed to click good photographs,” says Mr. Saikrishnan. He was affected by polio that left his right leg impaired, when he was barely two years old.
“Abilympics is held once is four years and has over 43 categories. My task was to document the event through photography. I have been participating since 2006 to prove my talent and overcome sympathy about my physical condition,” he adds.
He is now eagerly looking forward to represent the country at the international Abilympics to be held in France next year.
“I won silver for the country in 2007 and came fourth in 2010. I want to make up for the loss, this time,” says Mr. Saikrishnan, who especially loves portrait photography.
