June 06, 2014 01:54 am | Updated 01:54 am IST - CHENNAI:

A 24-year-old trainee gentleman cadet collapsed and later died, reportedly of a cardiac arrest, during a routine training schedule at the Officers’ Training Academy at St. Thomas Mount on Thursday morning. Siddharth Raina from Jammu collapsed just before completing an event conducted as part of the battle physical efficiency test. A B.Tech graduate, Siddharth had joined the Short Service Commission (technical grade) course, last October. Son of Sandeep Raina, a head clerk with the electricity board in Jammu, Siddharth collapsed around 7 a.m., said the St. Thomas Mount district police.

He was administered first aid and taken to the Military Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Preliminary reports suggested the cadet was probably training on an empty stomach. A case under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (death under mysterious circumstances) was registered at the St. Thomas Mount police station.
