Officials say this is not the first instance of the tigress Vidya wandering off for a long time.

Old structures on the Vandalur zoo premises will be inspected and repaired wherever necessary, said M.S.M. Anandan, Forest Minister, on Monday.

The minister, speaking to the media after inspecting the tiger enclosure at Vandalur zoo, said the zoo has at least four old structures, which the officials would inspect and reinforce. The walls in the enclosures of the Indian Gaur, wild dogs and the damaged one in the tiger enclosure had been built a while ago. Reinforcement work would be taken up on all these structures, he said.

The minister noted that the elusive tigress Vidya was still said to be within her enclosure.

This had been recorded by the CCTV network as recently as Monday morning. So, there was no need for panic, he said.

On the occasion, the authorities played the video footage of the tigress moving around inside the enclosure. The footage had been recorded by the camera that was kept atop the retaining wall of the collapsed portion.

This is not the first time that Vidya has refused to return to her enclosure. In May this year, she stayed back in the open for nearly a week.
