After a tiring week of relentless rescue operations at the building collapse site in Moulivakkam, it was time to honour the bravehearts on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa felicitated 3,743 persons for their efforts in rescuing those trapped under the debris of the 11-storey building that collapsed on June 28.
Commending their efforts, Ms. Jayalalithaa said, “The coordinated efforts of various departments in rescuing 27 persons alive from the debris were worthy of praise.”
The Chief Minister personally felicitated 59 persons, including Sanjay Arora, ADGP, operations, Tamil Nadu Commando Force, S. Vijayasekar, joint director, and Priya Ravichandran, deputy director, Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services, S.P. Selvan, DIG (south), National Disaster Response Force, K. Kolandaswamy, director of public health, B.N. Sridhar, COO of GVK-EMRI (108 ambulance service), T.S. Sridhar, State revenue administration commissioner, Vikram Kapur, Chennai Corporation commissioner, S. George, city police commissioner, and K. Shanmugavel, joint commissioner (West).
The canine unit of NDRF and TNFRS was also feted.
Two more heldTwo more men were arrested in connection with the building collapse. M. Balagurusamy (54), nephew of M. Manoharan, MD, Prime Sristi Housing Private Limited, and site engineer K. Karthik, 25, were picked up from Madurai and Thenkasi, respectively, on Monday night and remanded to Puzhal prison on Tuesday.
