Corporation Council polls: holiday for residents of ward no. 35

The State government has declared a holiday in ward no. 35 of the Chennai Corporation on September 18 for casual elections to the Corporation Council.

Ward no. 35 covers Kodungaiyur, Erukkanchery and Chinnandimadam. As many as 48 polling stations will be set up in 12 schools in the ward.

The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission has notified that the casual elections will be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 18. According to a press release, every employed person, shall be granted a holiday at no deduction or abatement of their wages. If any employer contravenes this statutory obligation, then such employer shall be punishable under Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the release said.

Liquor outlets in the ward will be closed from 5 p.m. on September 16 to 5 p.m. on September 18.
