May 20, 2014 10:07 am | Updated 10:07 am IST - CHENNAI:

The well-rounded approach that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa brought to governance has ensured a 'runaway, landslide' victory for her party in three recently-concluded general elections, V. Vaikunth, former DGP of Tamil Nadu, has said.

He credited the victory to Ms. Jayalalithaa, her administrative capacity, welfare focus, interest in resolving the power situation in the State, her firm stand on the Cauvery and Mullaiperiyar issues, numerous welfare schemes — key among them the Amma Canteens — and her firm decisions while handling the law and order situation in the State.

The principle of inclusiveness had benefited the disadvantaged section and village economy was booming, he added in a release.

Offering congratulations to Ms. Jayalalithaa on her electoral achievement, he appealed to the people of the State to strengthen her hand, and enable her to take a leading role in governance at the national level.

Mr. Vaikunth also congratulated BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on his success.
