A well-marked low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal off the coast of Sri Lanka is likely to bring light rains to some areas in the city on Monday.

The Met department has forecast cloudy skies for Monday, too. On Sunday, several areas, including Triplicane, Kilpauk, Chetpet and Adyar, experienced short showers from afternoon onwards. The Nungambakkam observatory recorded 3 mm of rain from 8.30 a.m. till 8.30 p.m. while the one at Meenambakkam recorded 1.6 mm. While Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 27.6 degree Celsius and a minimum of 23.7 degree Celsius, Meenambakkam recorded a maximum of 27.5 degree Celsius and a minimum of 23.2 degree Celsius.

The low pressure area may intensify into a depression during the next 48 hours and is expected to bring rains to several places across coastal Tamil Nadu. A few north coastal areas are likely to experience heavy showers, said officials of the department. On Sunday, Cuddalore recorded 3 mm of rain and Karaikal, 9 mm.
