With a pass percentage of 99.94, Tamil Nadu stood second among the five States and three Union Territories under the Chennai Region in the CBSE Class X results which were announced on Monday. It came next to Puducherry, where all the 964 students passed.
While the results of Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram regions were declared on Monday, the results for the other eight regions were announced on Tuesday.
Chennai Region, which comprises Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Daman and Diu, not only stood second among the 10 regions in the country, but also recorded the highest number of students securing a 10 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) — 12,887. The Board, which follows the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system, assesses students on both scholastic and non-scholastic areas and grades them on a scale of A1 to E2 instead of marking students.
According to a release from CBSE Delhi, Chennai Region stood second after Thiruvananthapuram in terms of pass percentage. Until last year, Kerala was also a part of the Chennai Region. According to D.T. Sudharsan Rao, Regional Officer, Chennai Region, of the 28,589 students who appeared for the exam in Tamil Nadu, 28,572 made the cut. “The number of students who appeared for the examination has gone up in the region by about 10 per cent,” he said. Of the 28,589 students who registered for the examination, as many as 23,593 opted for the Board Based examination in the State. In 2011, CBSE gave students the option of choosing between a school-based and a board-based final examination in Class 10.
