New Year’s Eve turned out to be the day for the miraculous survival of a 10-year-old boy with mental retardation who was trapped for four days inside a 25-feet-deep well near his house in Nungambakkam.

He was rescued on Wednesday with minor injuries. He slipped and fell into the well on Saturday and was reported missing.

According to the Nungambakkam police, K.V. Vishal was last seen playing near his house in Vaikundapuram on Kamarajapuram Main Road in Nungambakkam on Saturday afternoon.

Soon after, his father Venkatesh reported him missing and posters were put out in a desperate attempt to locate the boy.

On Wednesday evening, some residents heard faint cries from a well on the street where Vishal’s house is located.

“A detailed examination revealed someone was trapped inside. The police were alerted and personnel rushed to the spot. They brought out a sobbing boy who was identified as the missing Vishal,” said an investigating officer.

Vishal was rushed to the Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment and was reported to be stable.
