31 nomination papers rejected

Candidates had failed to furnish all the data required by ECI

The Chennai District Election Office on Monday rejected 20 nomination papers filed by candidates in the Central Chennai Lok Sabha constituency.

A total of 21 nomination papers have been accepted in the constituency. All the rejected papers were filed by independent candidates in the constituency, said an official of the district election office.

Candidates who filed nomination papers in the constituency include Dayanidhi Maran of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, S.R. Vijayakumar of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, C.D. Meiyappan of Indian National Congress, J. Constandine Ravindran of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam and J. Prabhakar of Aam Aadmi Party.

The rejected nomination papers were filed by candidates who failed to furnish all the data required by Election Commission of India.

Nomination papers of five of the 47 candidates in South Chennai Lok Sabha constituency have been rejected. Candidates who filed nomination papers in the constituency include J. Jayavardhan of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, T.K.S. Elangovan of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, S.V. Ramani of the Indian National Congress and L. Ganesan of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Of the 51 nomination papers in North Chennai, six have been rejected. Candidates who filed nomination papers in the constituency include T.G. Venkatesh of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, R. Girirajan of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Biju Chacko of the Indian National Congress and U. Vasuki of the CPI (M).
