A 30-year-old woman killed her one-and-a-half-year old daughter by throwing her in the Cooum river in Avadi on Wednesday morning. She had planned to commit suicide with the child but changed her mind after she saw her older daughter standing on the banks and crying.
According to police, the incident took place around 11.30 a.m. in Kamaraj Nagar. The woman, Saritha came to the river with her daughters Asha (3) and Nisha. Police said she took the extreme step after an altercation with her husband, Selvam who works in a tyre company. Saritha said he was an alcoholic and constantly abused her. Police arrested her and booked her for murder.
