A seven-year-old girl is suspected to have died of rabies on Friday.

Police said, P. Jayasree, a class II student and a resident of Vellanur near Avadi, was bitten by her pet dog on October 8. Her parents, Palani and Sujatha, had her treated in a private hospital. On Friday morning, Jayasree suffered an epileptic seizure when she was about to leave for school. The child was immediately taken to Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute and then referred to Government Children’s Hospital, Egmore. But she died on the way. Her body was taken to Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. Her vital organs have been sent for viscera test. Avadi Tank Factory police are investigating.
