The Madras High Court has quashed the FIR against two trustees of an educational trust in the case relating to the collapse of a wall at the Jeppiar Institute of Technology. The incident at Kunnam in Kancheepuram district took place on August 6 and nine workers died.

Justice A. Arumugha Swamy passed the order on a petition by Jeppiar and his wife, Remibai Jeppiar.

In the petition filed through counsel, R.C.Paul Kanagaraj, the petitioners said that although they were trustees of the Jeppiar Remibai Educational Trust, they were not the authors of the trust. They had not been named as accused in the FIR registered by the Sunkuvarchatram police station. No specific overt had been alleged against them.

The police ignored the fact that the petitioners were not the managing trustees. They did not play any active role in its day-to-day activities. The Judge said that no case had been made out against the petitioners. Considering all the facts, he said he was quashing the FIR against the two petitioners alone.
